It was built as a reparation after the upheavals of the war between France and Germany and the Vatican Council. In that period all the Basilicas in France were consacrated to Maria's cult, and the Sacre Coeur's one, dedicated to Jesus was a drastic change. The Basilica of Sacre Coeur is characterized by its immaculate three domes, which are prone to drastic change of colors and tones depending from the light of the day and its relative season. This basilica is considered first of all a place of pilgrimage. Visitors can reach the famous basilica after a very big starway but also by a confortable funicular (Le Funiculaire de Montmartre), starting from Place Suzanne-Valadon at the bottom of the hill, whose nearest metro's stop is Anvers (Line 2), or Abesses (Line 12). |

The Basilica of Sacre Coeur is situated at the top of Montmartre Hill (the Butte Montmarte) and is clearly visible nearly from everywhere in Paris, being the hill the highest place of the town, exactly 129 mt.
