Paris set to hold Smart City event to clean up 'urban living'

Paris, as well as other cities throughout Europe, is set to invest in what is being called 'smart technologies' that will improve the overall quality of the urban environment. This announcement comes from ThomasNet and Environmental Technology, saying that new developments in technology for Smart Cities will be discussed at an international festival that is hosted by the University of Paris.
It is hoped that Smart City will then be able to look at the new developments in technology, architectural projects and local and national trends. It is the aim of Smart City to encourage sustainable urban development and discover national trends. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this. Technology is highly developed in our homes, with computers allowing us to play Partypoker and mobile phones allowing us to surf the internet. However, technology does not seem to have translated as much into the urban environment, until now.

It is important to recognise the need to find some way of making urban growth as sustainable as possible. It is predicted that the population of the world will exceed seven billion this October, and most of these people will be living in urban areas. This is a big issue that will have a dramatic effect on the urban world if nothing is done about it.

These types of issues will be discussed over the rest of the year, with green building techniques being brought to light on October 4-6 at the SXSW Eco, USA and the Greenbuild International in Canada from October 4-7.

However, the most important time for sustainable urban development plans will come in 2012. From June 4-6, heads of state from around the globe will meet in Rio in an attempt to come to a binding agreement about the various issues of sustainable development.
